SPRINGFIELD, GA – Georgia DOT announces Norfolk Southern Railroad will close the railroad crossing on State Route (SR) 119 in the City of Springfield in Effingham County for emergency rail repairs. SR 119 will close for three days beginning 7 a.m., Wednesday, February 9 and scheduled to reopen by 7 p.m. Friday, February 11.
During the closure, a detour will be in place on State Routes to accommodate high traffic volumes. Traffic will be detoured via SR 21 Spur and SR 21. The roadway will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule or could possibly be closed longer if weather delays the work.
S.R. 119 will remain open to local traffic up to the work zone. The existing one-track railroad crossing, operated by Norfolk Southern Railroad, will be closed to replace damaged rails at this location.
